Has beer advertising finally changed for the better?
Beer is social, but can it be combined with social media & dogoodery? We find out.
No longer can consumers relate to beer advertising with yellow, fizzy beer, frog commercials, and lame billboards. New Belgium Brewing Company is one case where giving your fans a chance to get involved and feel integrated into an authentic company culture and brand taps into success.
In 2009, New Belgium had a great co-branded opportunity to tie-in a Skinny Dip beer promotion with the environmental website Grist.org. Grist developed an educational Facebook quiz about water advocacy sponsored by Skinny Dip beer. The quiz was promoted virally and through online ads on Grist. Initial numbers showed the campaign had logged over 3,200 engagements and resulted in more than 1,380,000 impressions. The great part is, the quiz is still live. Check it out for yourself and tell us what you think.
Has New Belgium stopped experimenting there? No way.
Dogs, beer, and philanthropy make a perfect mix. New Belgium partnered with Outside Magazine and launched a Mighty Arrow Facebook campaign to coincide with their spring seasonal brew Mighty Arrow. Fans are encouraged to enter photos of their dog and each entry generates a $1 donation up to $10,000 to raise money for the Humane Society. As of today,
$6,016 has been raised.
The cutest dog photo entry winner is announced each week and receives a New Belgium hat, a recycled Frisbee, a dog collar made of recycled tire tubes and a year’s subscription to Outside Magazine.
The original deadline to enter was March 4th, but the New Belgium Facebook page communicates the contest & fundraising efforts have been extended an additional 3 weeks.
New Belgium continues to identify trends and engage in online conversations about their brand. Read more here about their web content strategy. We look forward to seeing what they come up with next.
